March 17 of 2002 is the date of 110th birth anniversary of N. Kondratieff (1892-1938) who is one of the Russian worldwide known economists - author of the theory of large cycles of economic conjuncture, new paradigm of forecasting the future, and one of the founders of the school of Russian cyclism.

The International Kondratieff Foundation, the Pitirim Sorokin – Nikolai Kondratieff International Institute, Institute of Economics of RAS and the Administration of Ivanovo and Vladimir regions are organizing an International scientific symposium devoted to 110th birth anniversary of N.D. Kondratieff to be held on March 15-18, 2002. The subject of the symposium - “Scientific Heritage of N.D. Kondratieff in the Context of Development of the Russian and the World Socio-Economic Thought”.

The following issues are planned for discussion at the plenary meeting and special sessions of the Symposium:

• Life and creative work of N.D. Kondratieff is a great deed of a Russian intellectual;
• Contribution of N.D. Kondratieff into the new paradigm of social development studies;
• Theory of large cycles of conjuncture and prospects of cyclic dynamics in the XXI century;
• Methodology of forecasting, strategic and indicative planning in the light of N.D. Kondratieff’s ideas;
• Works of N.D. Kondratieff on conjuncture of the world economy and the modern trends of globalization;
• Kondratieff’s research of the agricultural issues and the perspectives for the development of the Russian agro-industrial complex;
• Problems and prospects of development of the Russian historical regions in the light of N.D. Kondratieff’s ideas.

The Sorokin readings will cover the discussion of the issues of scientific cooperation of N.D. Kondratieff and P.A. Sorokin and effect of their scientific heritage on teaching of socio-economic disciplines.

The X Kondratieff Readings will summarize the results of the 10-year activity of the International Kondratieff Foundation and will outline the future researches.

The participants will travel to the village of Galuevskaya (Kineshma region, Ivanovo oblast’) – the place where N.D. Kondratieff was borne and will make a tour to St. Efimiy monastery of the town of Suzdal – the place of his imprisonment during the period of 1931-1938.

Republication of N.D. Kondratieff’s books “Development of the Economy of Kineshma zemstvo of Kostroma district: Socio-Economic and Financial Essay” (first published in 1915) and “The World Economy and its Conjunctions During and After the War”, where he for the first time referred to the long cycles (published in Vologda in 1922), has been planned by the time of the work of the symposium.

We intend to publish the papers presented at the symposium. Persons interested in participating and presenting a paper are welcomed to fill in the application forms (attached herewith) and return them by November 15, 2001 and the abstract of the presentation (maximum 3 pages) in the E-mail version to be sent to: bondarenko@inst-econ.org.ru
